Rubbish cycle lane

Nice bright morning, so I treat myself to an alternative way in to work: over Southwark Bridge, up Watling St past St Paul's, through the Oxbridge-college-like quiet courts and back alleys of Lincoln's Inn, and along Lamb's Conduit St, home of Bikefix.

And it was at the bottom of Lamb's Conduit St that I found, to my delight, this genuinely rubbish cycle lane.

  1. I've commented before how litter and vandalism can make cycling a less attractive proposition due to a lowering of a feeling of social safety.

However, this is the first instance I've seen where the route is actually completely blocked by such...

  3. I've often walked pass there on my lunch break wondering what the point of the lane is. Pointless really, i think the only point is to give some indication that the road is two way for bikes but not for cars.

  4. @Adam... yes, it's a rum lane, isn't it? Only six foot long with a 90-degree bend in the middle. It's often been blocked when I've passed before, but never quite as extravagantly as today. I've seen families move house with less stuff.

  5. That is bad,do they not have Litter Wardens to Fine People for this. Where I live in the Centre of the City if the Council see's this Happening they immediately go to the Nearest Restaurant or Cafe that is close by and Issue them with Summonses and Threaten them wih Court Action if it is not cleaned up and kept clean in Future. They are not particulary worried about Cyclists being inconvenienced however as they do not Enforce the no Parking or Driving on Cycle Lanes but they do worry about the Rubbish being strewn around.

  6. Come to think of that, that mat at the front of the pile of rubbish doesn't look to bad. I think my mum could use it in her spare room.
